JBL Artemio Set - Brine Shrimp Hatchery Kit
JBL Artemio Set - complete brine shrimp hatchery.
he JBL Artemio Set is a complete brine shrimp hatchery kit produced by JBL in Germany, designed to hatch Artemia nauplii (baby brine shrimp) reliably within 24 to 48 hours for use as live food for fish fry, seahorses and small reef fish.
For anyone raising fish fry, keeping seahorses, or wanting a steady on-demand source of live food without the cost and logistics of ordering repeatedly, a home hatchery is the practical solution. Artemia nauplii are one of the most widely accepted live foods in the hobby - small enough for newly hatched fry, nutritious enough to make a real difference to growth rates, and readily taken by species that ignore dry food entirely. The JBL Artemio Set gives you that supply on your own terms, hatching a fresh batch whenever you need it.
The kit includes everything needed to run a complete hatching cycle: a cone-shaped hatching vessel with lid, a sturdy stand with fixings, a 3W 230V air pump with 1.8m of tubing and a check valve, a 150 micron Artemia sieve, and a collection container. Nothing is missing and no additional equipment is required to get started. The cone design is the key feature - it keeps eggs continuously suspended in the water column during aeration, which maximises contact with oxygen and salt water and produces consistently high hatch rates compared to flat-bottomed vessels where eggs settle and fail to develop.
To hatch, add brine shrimp eggs and aquarium salt to the vessel, connect the air pump, and leave for 24 to 48 hours. Once hatched, switch off the pump and allow the empty shells to float to the surface while the live nauplii sink - then harvest through the 150 micron sieve, rinse with fresh water to remove excess salt, and feed directly to the tank. The system is expandable: additional JBL hatching vessels can be connected in series for continuous multi-batch production, which is useful if you are running a breeding programme or feeding multiple tanks on a daily basis.
Dimensions are 128 x 342 x 233mm, net weight 910g, power consumption 3W at 230V.
Reefphyto stocks brine shrimp hatching eggs, shelless eggs and JBL Artemio Fluid enrichment to complete your setup. Enriching hatched nauplii with Artemio Fluid before feeding significantly increases the nutritional value passed on to your fish - particularly relevant for fish fry, where early nutrition has a direct impact on survival rates and development.
